Human kinematic, kinetic and EMG data during level walking, toe/heel-walking, stairs ascending/descending

This database contains the kinematic, kinetic and electromyographic (EMG) data acquired from 50 healthy subjects (age between 6 and 72 years) during level walking at different velocities, toe- and heel-walking, stairs ascending and descending. Kinematics and kinetics were recorded using an optoelectronic system and two force plates, respectively. Both the complete dataset (file All_Subjects.zip), and the data related to each single subject (file SubjectX.mat) can be downloaded. Demographic and anthropometric features of the subjects are available in Demo_Anthro.xlsx file. Each file SubjectX.mat file holds a structure which contains the subject’s anthropometric variables (Age, Gender, body height, body mass), the sampling rate of the kinematic, kinetic, and EMG data (KinFreq, GrfFreq, EMGfreq), the dominant leg from which the EMG signals were acquired (EMGSide), the names of the angles (AngVarName), moments (MomVarName), powers (PwrVarName), force plate variables (GrfVarName), EMG signals (EmgVarName), and markers (MarkerVarName), and two fields (Data and StandingData) which contain, respectively, the data of the locomotor trials and the standing trial. Two Matlab functions are provided: the function "CalcAngle.m" computes joint angles in the three anatomical planes, starting from the reference frames of two body segments. The script "walking_fig.m" contains an example on how to read and visualize angles, moments and powers of ankle, knee and hip joints of a single subject (Subject 6) executing straight line walking at different speed.
