The dataset presented here consists of a spreadsheet in Excel .xlsx format, containing information on differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from two groups of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum; one selected for a short duration (S) and the other a long duration (L) of death feigning antipredator behaviour.

An RNA-seq analysis was performed on the S and L strains of T. castaneum to elucidate the relationship between gene expression and differences in death feigning behaviour. cDNA sequencing was performed using the Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform. Approximately 90% of the clean reads obtained were mapped to the Tcas5.2 reference genome, and further analysis revealed 518 DEGs between the L and S strains. Information on the DEGs identified is presented here in the file death-feigning-degs.xlsx. The information provided is as follows:

LOC name - Gene symbol for the gene identified
Region - Genomic region of the gene identified
Gene ID - ID of the gene identified
Description - Gene description
FPKM for L - Fragments Per Kilobase per Million mapped reads value for the L strain
FPKM for S - Fragments Per Kilobase per Million mapped reads value for the S strain
log2(Fold change+1)
p-value
FDR - False Discovery Rate

These results are further discussed and presented in the figures of the accompanying paper.
