Data of respective depths with standard deviation are obtained from WOA 2013 climatological database (red circles 30.5–34.5°N/136.5–164.5°E; n = 11) and from numerical model simulation (blue circles based on Fig. 4). The NO3 concentration gradient between 50 and 100 m is estimated to be ~ 0.034 mmol m− 4 using 0.3 μmol kg− 1 at 50 m and 2.0 μmol kg− 1 at 100 m. (PDF 36 kb)
